Patton Pool Website
Annual Newsletter
March 2000
-
This marks three years since the Patton Pool Website began. Thanks again
for your support and encouragement. The website continued to grow at a
rapid rate with the addition of about 250 new files bringing the total
to around 645. When I think back to when the website was started and there
were no news clips for the first few months, it is amazing that by this
August, there should be close to 200! If you have more you want to add,
send them in. About five people have volunteered to help retype them so
they can be turned into webpages for everyone to enjoy.

This section of the newsletter is the website's version of Public Television's
"Pledge Break." Instead of money, we need your Patton memorabilia and memories
to add to the website. Let's keep it growing! You can help by continuing
to contribute material to be added and helping to locate people. Next time
you visit the website, please check out the webpage linked to your name
and see if you want to add to or change any of the material. If there is
no webpage linked to your name, you probably haven't filled out the registration
form.

The Patton Website will be transferred to a CD sometime this summer, probably
after the reunion so the photos from the reunion can be included. It will
be made available for a couple or three bucks and include everything on
the website up to that point. I know a lot of you are sitting on some great
old photos or articles tucked away in a drawer or basement that can be
enjoyed by a lot of people if you want to send them to me to be scanned.
Think about it! Our swimming days are 35-40 years behind us. To the kids
swimming now it would have been like us looking at stuff from the 20s.
The age-group program at Patton in the 50s and 60s was at the very beginning
of modern, organized competitive swimming. I think the website has a certain
historical value, in that regard. The plan is to send a copy of the CD
to the Director of Swimming for Detroit Parks and Recreation and to the
Recreation Director at Patton Pool with the hope to inspire them to get
something going again. Last I heard, there was no swimming team at Patton.
How tragic, when the kids who live in that area now need positive role
models and a wholesome activity to participate in more that ever.

The Patton Reunion scheduled for August 12, 2000, in Ann Arbor is on track
and the reunion committee hopes to be sending out the invitations in the
next couple of weeks with all the details. If there is a person you would
especially like us to look for, please let us know. There will be about
60 invitations going out; however, there are still a lot more people to
locate.

Is your email still up-to-date on the website?
My best to all of you and hope to see you in Ann Arbor,
Ed
