Cub Tankers Shine
In its last three meets, the swimming team has displayed the caliber of spirit which has made it a solid title contender. The Cubs finished the year with but a single loss, and that to league champion, Austin.
Against Visitation, CC, and Sacred Heart, the Cubs showed fine first team power and a strong bench. As usual the Cubs were led by team captains Tom Duffield and Tim Sullivan. Sullivan throughout the year has been a standout, finishing the season without a single loss in either the 50 or 100 yard freestyles. He has also been a spark plug in giving the team a real spirit, the true mark of a championship squad.
Other outstanding performanaces were by: Bill Malloy (4A) in diving; Tom Duffield (4G) in the 200 and 400 yard freestyles; Dick Duffield (2F) in the backstroke; Jim Pidgeon (3A), in the breaststroke; and the freestyle relay team of Bob Winderson (3G), Tom Schroeter (3G), Rick Schroeter (4E), and Glen Konkle (4A).
The Cub News congratulates the entire swimming team on its outstanding record (second dual meet record in the league) and predicts even more success next year.
