Seven Michigan age-group swimming
records were broken
Saturday as the Detroit Department of Parks and Recreation team won the
inter-city holiday meet held at Patton Pool. Detroit had 334 points and
the Dolphins of

Dayton, O., were next with 160. Toronto, Toledo,
Buffalo, Pittsburgh,
Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Lakewood, O., were represented among the
356
individual entries. Local swimmers accounted |
for all marks. Lee Davis, who won three
events in the
girls' 11-12 division, swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:18.6 andwon the
50-yard free in 28.7. Her other triumph came in the 50-yard butterfly
(31.3).
Lee's 2:18.9 bettered the time of Junelle Cunningham, of Dayton, wyho
won
her 200 in the 13-14 group in 2:19.8. It also topped Carl Boyd's 2:20.1
in the boys' 11-12 race. Other records were set by Carol Danboise
(32.1)
in the 50 free for girls 10 and under; John Savinsky (24.6) in the 50
for
boys 15-16; Lynn Makkonen (5:20.4) in the 400-yard medley, and
Detroit's
200-yard freestyle relay for boys 10 and under (2:16.7). Miss Makkonen
clipped more than 27 seconds of the 1958 mark of Eileen Cross. |
