Relays

Mr. Joseph Paz, coach of UD HS swimming team, likes to win the relays. So does the team. For in the three dual meets held during this season, the relays have been infallible guideposts to the eventual winner.
In the first meet against Notre Dame, the Cub Tankers pulled in the first relay, so that by the second relay they piled up soch a lead that a "B: relay was substituted. Meanwhile, Tim Sullivan (3A) won the 50 and 100 yd. freestyle sprints, and The Duffields, Tom (4G), Dick (2F), and Harry (1A), each won his event.
The second meet offered a greater challenge for the Cubs. Against the Pilots of De La Salle, both relays came into play, and victories in both brought home the bacon, 55-50. Once again, Tim Sullivan swam to a double victory, this time joined by Tom Duffield. But it was the final freestyle relay which clinched the victory for the Cubs.
On Friday, Jan. 29, UD lost to Austin, 58-47. Sullivan again was a double winner and Tom Duffield took a first and a second. But the first relay had lost, and, as per the rule, the decision went against the Cubs. Even salvaging the final relay couldn't help.
In each of the meets, the Cubs have found strong areas. Sullivan has been undefeated. The Duffields have been strong. IN addition, divers Bill Molloy (4D) and John Jastrembski (3A) haven't been topped. It simply comes down to the relays.
