Patton Team Sets MedleyRelayMark

A Patton pool quartet of Rick Skarbo, Dennis Manrique, Ray Ferguson and Pete Adams set a national 200-yard medley relay record of 1:47.7 for boys in the 15-17 age bracket Saturday night in the swimming meet at the Womens' City Club pool. 
The old record of 1:48.4 was held by the North Virginia Aquatic Club. 
Patton, part of the Department of Parks and Recreation squad coached by Joan Kintzing and Harry Hauck, won team honors with 93 points. Detroit Turners was next with 70 and the City Club third with 56. 
Lee Davis, Patton's versatile 12-year old, was a triple winner in her age group with first in the butterfly, freestyle and backstroke at 50 yards with times of 31.1 in the butterfly, 28.5 in the freestyle and 33.8 in the backstroke.
Peggi Wirth, of Turners, also was a triple winner in the open events, taking the 100 freestyle in 1:01, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:34. 
Lynn Makkonen, of Patton, was the best in the 250-yard freestyle for girls in the 15-17 age division with a 3:03 time while her sister, Joan swam off with the 200-yard freestyle in 2:24 in the 13-14 age class.
