Patton Swimmers
Win 3rd State Title

Patton Pool, of Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department, retained its Michigan AAU team title in boys' swimming with 93 points yesterday at Wyandotte's Memorial Pool.
Coach Harry Hauck's well conditioned proteges now have only to win the women's senior title April 7-8 at Ann Arbor to make a sweep of all team titles in AAU swimming.
Patton Pool previously had won the girls' (16-and- under) and the men's team point awards.
The Maple Swim Club of Pontiac, coached by Corey Van Fleet, finished second with 63 points. Thurston Swim Club was third with 28. Fifteen clubs represented by 185 swimmers participated. The meet was sponsored by the Wyandotte and Downriver YMCA and Wyandotte Recreation Department.
Patton took both the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays and set state records in both. The squad of Rick Skarbo, Dennis Manrique, John Stewart and John Savinsky nipped the Maple Swim Club when Savinsky caught Maple's anchor man in the medley to win in 3:59.5.
Patton's foursome of John Powser, Ron Boyd, Jay Osrowske and Pete Adams was clocked in 3:36.6 in the freestyle relay.
Adams, Pershing High's city champion in the 200 and 400, won the 400-yard freestyle yesterday in 4:14.3. It was the first time the event has been held in the 16-and-under championships.
Savinsky's 1:59.3 mark in winning the 200 freestyle also was a record, as were Don Spencer's 56.4 in the 100-yard butterfly and Ken Wiebeck's 58.1 in the 100-yard backstroke.
