to 4 Marks in
Cleveland Meet
CLEVELAND, July 1.-Rick Skarbo paced four Detroit swimmers
to record-breaking
efforts in the Great Lakes championships held over the weekend
here.
The 17-year-old June graduate of Western High set four meet
marks. He
was clocked in 2:27.3 for the 220-yard backstroke, 5:34.7 for the
440-yard
individual medley, 2:31.7 for the 220-yard individual medley and 1:07.7
for the 100-yard backstroke.
Tom Sullivan swam the 220-yard breaststroke in 2:56.2, Doug
Webster
was caught in 2:15.8 for the 220-yard butterfly and Monty Blashill made
the 220-yard freestyle in 2:15.8. They and Skarbo represented Patton
Pool.
In the age classes Kathy Filgo, of Detroit Turners, won the
11-12-year-old
55-yard freestyle in 31.4 and the 55-yard butterfly; Mary Beth Ceresko,
of Patton, was first in the 13-14 100-yard butterfly; and John Szuba,
of
Patton, took the 55-yard butterfly for boys 10 years old and under.
