Patton Team Sets
Medley Relay Mark

A Patton pool quartet of Rick Skarbo, Dennis Manrique, Ray Ferguson and Pete Adams set a national 200-yard medley relay record of 1:47.7 for boys in the 15-17 age bracket Saturday night in the Michigan AAU swimming meet at the Women's City Club pool. 
The old record of 1:48.4 was held by the North Virginia Aquatic Club. 
Patton, part of the Department of Parks and Recreation squad coached by Joan Kintzing and Harry Hauck, won team honors with 93 points, Detroit Turners was next with 70 and the City Club third with 56. 
Lee Davis, Patton's versatile 12-year-old, was a triple winner in her age group with firsts in the butterfly, freestyle and backstroke at 50 yards with times of 31.1 in the butterfly, 28.5 in the freestyle and 33.8 in the backstroke. 
Peggi Wirth, of Turners, also was a triple winner in the open events, taking the 500 in 6:01, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08 and the 200-yard medley in 2:34. 
In other events, Cynthia Goyette, of Turners, was the 250-yard breaststroke winner in 3:27 while Mikie Shelton, of City Club, led the 100 yard backstroke in 1:11.1. Lynn Makkonen and her sister Joan, both of Patton, were the winners in the 250 and 200-yard freestyle races in 3:03 and 2:24, respectively.
