PATTON LEADS IN
AMATEUR AQUATICS
LYNN MAKKONEN--LEE DAVIS
SET NEW STATE RECORDS
The Patton Swimming Team, representing the Detroit Parks and
Recreation
Department and coached by Harry E. Hauck, participated in the Detroit
Jewish
Community Center Age Group and Open A.A.U. Swim Meet last Sunday. This
was the first of five Michigan Amateur Aquatics Meets. Last year Patton
won all five M.A.A. meets held and are number one for their first meet
this year. Teams from Canada, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan were
represented,
a total of 23 teams.
Lynn Makkonen was the double winner of the meet, taking both
the Women's
100 and 200 yard freestyle events. Her time of 59.5 in the 100, and
2:11.8
in the 200 were both Michigan state records. Lee Davis established a
new
state record in the Girls 11 and 12 year old 100 yard freestyle event
with
a time of 1:02.1
John Westcott won the 100 yd. backstroke with a time of
1:03.4 for the
Boys 15 and 16.
The Patton Boys 10 and Under won the 100 yard medley. The
team consisted
of John Sherk, Greg Penn, John Allred and John Szuba. Also, Patton boys
13 and 14 medley relay took a first setting a new state record of
2:04.4.
Doug Webster, John Hollinger, Carl Boyd and Mark Manrique made up this
relay. Carol Danboise won the 10 and Under 25 yard Girls'
freestyle
with a time of 14.2.
