State Marks
State AAU records were set in 14 of the 30 events yesterday
in the Holiday
age-group swimming meet which continues today at Patton Pool.
Doug Webster, 16, of Patton, led the spree with three marks
in the boys'
15-17 age bracket. He took the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.7, the 100
backstroke
in 58.7 and the 200 freestyle in 1:56.8.
Gary Gottschling, 12, also of Patton, accounted for two more
in the
11-12 year division with a 2:21.1 in the 200 medley and a 1:04 in the
preliminaries
of the 100 backstroke. He won the final in the latter in 1:05.3.
A Lake Forest, Ill., miss, Patti Rothwell, broke state marks
in the
the 11-12 class with 1:07 in the 100 backstroke and 2:33 in the 200
medley.
Cynthia Goyette, of the Golden Lions Swimming Club, was
named as one
of the six Detroit swimmers who will compete on the U.S. team in the
Canadian-American
dual meet at Arlington, Va., Jan. 23.
Johanna Cooke, Susan Stuckey and Kathy Filgo, also of the
Golden Lions,
and Laura Novak and Gary Gottschling, of Patton, are the others.
