Swim Mark Set

From the Associated Press

Detroit public schools re-entered state high school swimming competition with a big splash last night as Pete Adams, of Pershing, broke the state record for the 400-yard freestyle by 6.7 seconds at Ann Arbor.
The 15-year-old sophomore won the first event in the Class A championships in 4:04.6 and finished a half-pool length ahead of another Detroiter, Monty Blashill of Denby, who was second.
The old record was 4:11.3 set last year by John Donaldson of Pontiac Central. The event was a virtual sweep for metro-politan Detroit entries.  Finishing behind Adams and Blashill were John Lindahl of Trenton; Don Hagel of Royal Oak Kimball; Time Cash, of Kimball and Rudy Nichols, Flint Northern.
