St. Clair Takes
Third in Meet
St. Clair Recreation Swim Team traveled to Pittsburgh last Saturday
to compete in the Men's Jr. National 200-yard Medley Relay.
The team composed of Jim Vergoustrate (backstroke), Bob Moosekian
(breaststroke), Dave Wendler (butterfly) and Tom Kennary (freestyle), took
third place in the nation.
They broke the national record in the prelims, and took third in
the finals. Monty Blashill traveled back from Pittsburgh Saturday
night so he could compete Sunday in the Boys' State AAU 16-and-under
Championships at Wyandotte.
He took second in the 200-yard freestyle. He then anchored
St. Clair's freestyle relay team, which won the state championship but was
disqualified because of an illegal turn. Comprising the relay were Jim
McNairy, Ron Boyd, Dick Dewid, and Monty Blashill.
