Picked for
Swim Meet
Cynthia Goyette heads a list of five Detroit swimmers selected for the
United States team which will compete against Canada's best at London,
Ontario, Jan. 22.
Miss Goyette, Olympic gold medal winner as a member of the U.S.
400-meter medley relay team in Tokyo in 1960, will swim her specialty,
the 200-yard breast- stroke in the dual meet.
Patty Finn, Miss Goyette's teammate at the Motor City Swimming Association,
was selected for the 100-yard freestyle race for girls 10 and under.
Robin Rusis, of Garden City, in the girls' 10 and under breaststroke
race is another selection.
Two Patton Tiger Shark Club members, Bill Beiser (13-14) and Joanne
Scarborough (open) will be in the 200-yard breaststroke events.
The Tiger Sharks also will be represented by 15 girls and seven boys
in the Midwest age-group meet Sunday at Hiram, Ohio. The Patton quartet
of Gary Gottschling, Bill Beiser, Greg Penn and either Jim Teunas or John
Sherk, are entered in the 400-meter medley relay where they are given a
chance to set a new American mark in the 25-meter pool.
