KALAMAZOO SWIM STAR SETS RECORD
Steve Roxborough, of Kalamazoo, the state's outstanding swimmer in the
10 years and under class, came up with another record when he won the Michigan
AAU mile championship yesterday at Patton Pool in 23:36.2.
This broke the mark of 25:28 set by John Szuba, of Patton Pool, two
years ago. Szuba's brother, Tom, finished second in 24:13.5, under the
old record.
Les McCormick, of the Fitzgerald Swim Club, had a sparkling 20:47.6
clocking as he won the mile in the 13-14 age group. This was close to the
20:24.6 made by Alan McDaid, of Northwest SC, in winning the open class
for boys 15 and over. John Sherk, of Patton, took the 11-12 age group title
in 22:03.5 beating out his teammate, Greg Penn.
