Detroit Girl Sets Swimming Mark
in London Meet
LONDON, Ontario, Jan. 22-
Joanne Scarborough, of the Patton Tiger Sharks from Detroit,
set a meet record of 2:35.5 in winning the women's 200-yard
breaststroke Saturday in an inter- national age-group and open
swimming meet.
The American squad earned a 279-144 triumph over the Canadian
opposition.
Miss Scarborough also swam a leg of the winning 400-yard
medley relay that was clocked in 4:22.3 and finished third in the
open 200 freestyle.
Bill Beiser, of Patton, won the 100-yard breast- stroke for
13-14 year olds with a time of 1:06 that set a Canadian open
mark. He also was on the winning 200 medley relay.
Robin Rusis, of Garden City, was second in :39.4 in the
10-and-under girls' 50-yard breaststroke. Patty Finn, of Motor
City Club, finished third in the 100 freestyle for 10-and-under
girls with a time of 1:09.9
