LAKEWOOD, O., April 20 -Doug Webster, of Royal Oak, Mich., swimming
for Detroit's Patton Pool team, set a national record for boys' 13 and
14 years of age in the Lake Erie AAU age-group indoor championships today.
Webster, a student at Kimball High School, swam the 200-yard backstroke
in 2:14.9 to smash a record of 2:18.2 held by Ed Bettendorf of the host
Lakewood Swim Club.
The Royal Oak star was one of three Patton Pool swimmers breaking Lake
Erie district age-group records.
Webster hit 4:15.5 for the 400-yard free style in the boys' 13-14 class;
Carol Danboise swam the 200 free style in 2:22.5 for a girls' 11-12 mark,
and George Saldana was clocked in 4:15.1 for the 400 freestyle in boys'
15-17 competition.
