City Swimmers
on U.S. Squad
Nine Detroit swimmers have been selected for the United States team
which will meet a Canadian squad in the 11th annual international dual
meet between the two countries at Hamilton, Ont. Jan 18.
The Detroit contingent will be led by Cynthia Goyette, National AAU
100-yard breast- stroke champion and American record holder in her specialty
at this distance and 200 meters.
Cynthia represents the Golden Lions Swim Club and will compete in the
open breaststroke and medley relay races. Lisa Beckenauer, in the girls'
9-10 age bracket, Kathy Filgo, 13-14, and Sue Stuckey, 15-17, also were
named from Cynthia's team.
Rick Skarbo and Tom Sullivan of Patton Pool will compete in the open
events for men and Patton's Alice Ceresko, in the girls' 11-12 age-group,
also was selected.
Johanna Cooke, of Garden City, now training at Patton but swimming unattached,
will join Miss Goyette in the breaststroke races, Mikie Shelton, of the
Women's City Club, will compete in the open medley and backstroke races.
