CHAUTAQUA, O.--Two Detroit swimmers shattered the 1,650-yard record
Thursday night in the Midwest Open Swim Championships here. Doug Webster,
of Patton Pool, broke the men's mark with a time of :19:26.
Joan Makkonen, also of Patton Pool, set a women's record of :21:10
for the distance.
Laura Novak was a double winner as she won the 100-yard back-
stroke and 200-yard individual medley in the 10-and-under class.
