FLOTSAM & JETSAM: Bruce Norvell's wife presented him with a baby boy a couple of weeks back. Tigersharks send their congratulations. What's his AAU number, Bruce? ................ Jimmie Pond (11) who is famous for his spoonerisms, such as "Boy, the murine sure is high in the pool today" and "How come the humility is so high" came up with another. He staggered toward me the other day, dug both fists into his orbs and lamented: "The Chlorophyl's hurtin' mah eyes, Sully." ................. "Little Klem" , just turned 14, is taking up where "Bull" Beiser left off in age group breaststroke. His 2:36.7 200 puts him on the right track toward Bill's 2:24.6 200 br. (boy's 13-14) done at Riviera Club. Bill also went a 1:05.9 100 before changing age groups and won the Canadian-American breast event in 1:06.0 for a new Canadian-Open record. Tigersharks showed strong representation in the Can.-Am. meet with three of the five Michigan swimmers. Joanne Scarborough and MBC were the other two. Joanne set a meet record in the open 200 br. of 2:35.5 ....................... Riviera Club's meet was an A-1 affair with such top swimmers as Carol Granning, Van Rockefeller, Steve Ware, Jeff Adam, Patti Smith, Vicki DeVore, Barb Crotty, Steve Carey and Jane Torley to name a few. Gene Lee, Riviera's coach, expressed disappointment that cut-off times were not strictly adhered to. Meets such as Riviera put on are refined beyond the fixed concept of a cut-off meet, however, and sooner or later will educate the rest of us to their purpose .................... Steve Roxborough hasn't gathered any dust (or moss) either. Steve put down 3 state records recently: 2:18.8 200 IM, 1:03.3 100 fly and 2:05 200 free (boys 11-12) ........................ Our own Christmas meet, run as a time-standard affair, was a complete success. Entrants came from seven states and two countries with a large team from Etobicoke, Ontario taking the runner-up trophy with 153 points to Tigersharks 439 ....................... Workout was canceled the other day when it was discovered the pool was polluted, but not before Jim Klemanski did his best repeats for pulling breastroke. Just remember, Jim, those times are for crap ........................ new Tigersharks Cathy Hoogerhyde, the Pistolesis and Larry Stackpoole out to earn their first shark-teeth ........................ as usual it is impossible to list all the outstanding drops and nice times done on the team, but here are a few of the best: Barb Church (13) 1:07.8 100 back, 2:29.9 200 back: Jim Teunas (14) 200 free 2:02.6, 400 4:27, 200 fly 2:17.0, 1:02.5 100 fly; Joanne Scarborough 2:24.9 200 fly, 1:12.2 100 breast, 5:53.3 500 free, 59.2 100 free; MB Ceresko 2:25.5 200 fly, 1:05.4 100 fly, 5:53.5 500 free; Gary Gottschling (13) 2:10.8 200 back, 1:00.3 100 back, 59.9 100 fly, 4:46.0 400 IM, 2:02.5 200 free, 4:25.5 400 free, 2:19.7 200 fly, 2:16.8 200 IM; Fred Scarborough 1,013.50 (sic) (Christmas Meet); Greg Penn (14) 2:01.7 200 free, 2:16.3 200 IM, 1:11.0 100 breast, 4:58.4 400 IM; John Sherk (14) 2:03.5 200 free, 54.9 100 free, 1:07.2 100 back; Irene Silva (12) 100 fly 1:08.3, 100 free 1:04.4, 5:06.9 400 free, 2:43.1 200 IM, 1:15.8 100 back; Karen Hislop (10) 1:23.0 100 fly; Cheryl Kee (11) 1:11 100 free, 2:57 200 IM, 1:22.8 100 back; Holly Hubbard (14) 2:44 200 IM, 1:04.8 100 free, 1:13.5 100 back, 1:14.1 100 fly, 2:28 200 free; Tom Szuba (11) 1:08.0 100 fly, 2:33 200 IM; John Szuba (13) 2:30 200 IM, 1:07.0 100 back; Bill Beiser (14) 1:05.9 100 breast, 2:24.6 200 br. , 2:22.8 200 IM, 1:03 100 fly; John Klemanski (14) 100 breast 1:10.5, 2:36.7 200 breast; Carol Merry (9) 1:23 100 free, 1:41.7 100 IM; Kevin Merry (12) 1:11 100 free; Jim Pond (11) 1:12 100 free; Randy Penn (11) 1:07 100 free, 1:18 100 fly; Tom Silva (11) 1:09.9 100 free, 1:21 100 fly; Debbie Hislop (12) 1:07.2 100 free, 2:26 200 free, 2:49 200 IM, 1:22 100 bk.; Dave Kee 5:02.6 400 IM, 1:04.4 100 fly, 54.9 100 free; Dave Sahagian 1:01.5 100 fly, 2:19 200 fly, 2:02.5 200 free; Greg Golin 2:19 200 IM, 4:20 400 free, 2:01 200 free; Tom Bates 2:18.0 200 IM; John Fortune 1:06.4 100 br.; Jim Klemanski 2:34.4 200 br., 53.8 100 free; Pat Ennis 53.0 100 free, 23.1 50 free; Brian Bates (14) 1:11.9 100 br., 2:39 200 br.; Bob Rienas 2:33.6 200 br.; Carol Pistolesi (9) 40.0 50 free; Cathy Pistolesi 44.1 50 bk.; Cheryl Reeder 1:16 100 free; Janis Reeder 1:31 100 bk.; Joanne Reeder 29.0 50 free; Mary Lou Shefsky 2:39.5 200 fly; Karen DeLair 1:05.2 100 free; Pat Holcomb (14) 1:14.9 100 breast, 2:44 200 IM; Sharon Hancock 59.9 100 free; Cathy Stidwell 1:09.3 100 IM; Tina Solis 2:40 200 back; Carol Danboise (14) 2:32.1 200 IM, 1:12.9 100 back; Art Church 44.0 50 back, 1:39 100 back; Bob Koch 1:18 100 free, 33.8 50 free; Ralph Richards 2:22 200 fly, 54.9 100 free, 1:01 100 fly; Richard Szuba 2:22 200 fly; Steve Waszak 1:00.1 100 fly ......................
