to push us in the pool to shut us up...........Mike Warniak--many thanks for his efforts above and beyond, etc. in the cause of swimming. A building supervisor looks after community interests, tis true, but Mike is the kind of guy who gets out there before you know you need him, and flashes out solutions before you know you've got problems............new name for Patton swimmers is "Tigersharks"; you know...tiger, orange and black...sharks--swimming.. .hmmm. Last time we had a tiger on our team he ate three backstrokers. They were looking at the ceiling and didn't see him. Say, I wonder if Armstrong would build us a new pool if we promised all our backstrokers would "Armstrong ceiling watchers?".............. new Patton ABC officers recently elected are: "Black Jack" Johnson, President; "Doc" Szuba (brother of Hickory and Dickory), Vice President; Mr. Richards, Treasurer; Mrs. Cooper, secretary; Mr. Danboise and Mr. Cooper, Representatives to the AAU............many thanks to Al Schoenfield for printing Betty Johnson's article in Swimming World and my own in Swimming Technique.............Beware pursuers of games of chance! Tom McCallum, who works on the deck in the day-time and with a deck at night, has at least fifty-two tricks up his sleeve...and when they fail, he'll shatter the glassy atmosphere with a yell (and everything else in sight). He even gripes even when he wins...............our two major team efforts of the early season are in the record books now, and we were fortunate enough to win both. The Fitzgerald meet was closest: Patton 287-1/2; Lake Erie Pepsi 268; NWAC 191-3/4; Golden Lions 164. The Pontiac meet official tally was: Patton 174; NWAC 101; GLSC 100. On both occasions home talent rose to the occasion. Those two meets plus individual entries from Patton in other meets (Ohio, Kentucky, etc.) have broken state records a total of 23 times in the last 1-1/2 months. Current state records include the following: Tom Szuba 32.3 50 fly (10 & under); Laura Novak (10 & under) 100 I.M. 1:14.9, 200 I. This list is by no means complete, but my case of writer's cramp is. There were many other "best times" for the above list and many names I have not mentioned. The Coopers and Kocks, Silvas, Szubas, Johnsons, Church, Roll, Tulloch, DeLair, Nardone, Bates, Moosekian, Picard, etc. have all shown the concentration and potential that marks the team as a whole, having improved at one distance or another either in practice or meets, and are part of that spirit which is Patton.
