My life after Patton:
Well, hello everyone, thanks to Ed we can bring back those vivid, or
not so vivid, memories from our days at Patton and Brennan. Since those
days, I had an extensive coaching period from 1969-1975 that included Marty
and Tom Szuba, the Dunworth boys, and for a short period, Gary Gottschling.
In 1975, I went to work for my in-laws in real estate and am still with
the company, which my wife Leigh and I own and manage. We have 2 daughters,
Christie and Carrie. Christie swam her freshman year at MSU and then gave
it up, Carrie couldn't make the team at U of M but played water polo. About
4 years ago Tom Szuba and I went to the NCAA's in Indianapolis when Michigan
won and had a ball. It was like old times. We went to all the prelims and
finals, including the heats of the 1650. Also had a beer or twoooooo!!!!!
Also went out to San Diego a few years ago for a real estate convention
and hooked up with Bruce Norvell and Rick Skarbo. They took Leigh and me
to Mexico for dinner. Believe it or not, Ricky picked up the tab. Bruce
said he had never seen Ricky's wallet come out of his pocket before!!!
I am currently working out 5-7 days a week, swim on MWF and cycle class
on TT. Sat and Sun. whatever I feel like. Still can't lose any weight,
I guess it is the age. My best to all Patton alumni and again, THANKS TO
ED. (4/99)
Some things I remember:
I would say my favorite memories of Patton are from when I swam, before
the Hauck era. Going to meets in Ohio with Ben Donaldson, Bob Moosekian
and Bruce Norvell. We had so much fun camping out (probably not too productive
for swimming, but economical and fun), playing "hearts for nicks" in the
Tonk room at Brennan, sitting on the 10-meter platform and listening to
Ron Alsobrook tell stories, playing water polo against Denby and Brewster.
