My Life After Patton:
Married to Chuck Ebinger since 12/65. Have 2 daughters: Jennifer, 30,
teaches in San Antonio TX ISD, and Sara, 28, nurse at St. Mary's Hospital
in Grand Rapids. Moved to Traverse City in 1972. Coached High School Girls
swim team for 10 years Taught swimming classes for Grand Traverse County
for 13 years. Chuck and I started the Old Mission Window Company 11 years
ago and sold it 5 years ago. Chuck is still working for the company. I
am working with the Traverse Area ISD in Special Ed for the last 4 1/2
years. I haven' t been doing too much swimming in the last 10 years. I
got a new hip 5 years ago and the NO PAIN-NO GAIN doesn't work anymore
for me. I enjoy my family, friends and my home on the Boardman River. We
have 2 dogs, Max (a golden) and Jac (a Scottie), and our Muscovy Duck George
brings a lot of fun to our lives. I consider myself a very blessed person.
My life is complete and I enjoy every day. (5/98)
Some Things I Remember:
-
I think the time Harry came into a Saturday practice not wanting to deal
with us. He had us do a 4-mile IM. I use to tell my high school girls that
we completed that, and they were amazed. I used to love to go to the swim
meets. The parties and hay rides were really fun. I really enjoyed all
the parents who were involved. One time we walked from Patton Pool to Harry's
house. I wish I could figure out how far that was. There were so many fun
times.
-
Lee was always a super star. She was the hardest working kid I ever knew.
I would tell my high school girl's swim team about her. She was a super
star to some Traverse City swimmers, too!
Reflections:
Coming from a dysfunctional family, my father was an abusive alcoholic,
it was really difficult growing up in our household. Harry, the parents
group and my teammates offered stability in my life. I learned a good work
ethic and team work. Had I not had this influence in my life, I could have
turned out to be a bitter person. I really appreciated the opportunity
that was given to me. I guess that is why I worked as hard as I did to
start the Traverse City High School Swim Team. I wanted to give back some
of the good things that I got from swimming.
